Belle's Gift Guide: Sustainable Santa

Hi everyone! I have posted about sustainability before, and am loving all of the new sustainable companies I have discovered. I know you are being flooded with gift ideas, so I thought I would start out my gift guides for the season with one that focuses on more environmentally conscious gifts. Christmas is definitely a time of overconsumption, and buying sustainably is not the only way to make an effort during the holidays. I know every gift can't be sustainable, but making any effort helps! If you just received a new sweater and don't need an old one, try re-selling, donating, giving it to a friend- the options are endless! It is unbelievable to me how much clothing ends up in landfills! According to the EPA, landfills received 11.2 million tons of textiles in 2017. I find myself consuming things I don't need, and am working harder to be more sustainable when I shop and even post-consumption. I included a few of my favorite brands below and the sustainable efforts they have been making.

Dudley Stephens not only has a stylish and comfortable selection but they use recycled yarn to make their products! A note from the sustainability section of their site "Our products are made in Brooklyn from recycled yarn, repurposing over 1 million plastic bottles for the sake of our planet to date."- how amazing is that!

Similar to Dudley Stephens, Rothy's also uses recycled plastic water bottles in their production! A note from Rothy's site "From our materials to our production to the way we treat our people, we consider sustainability every step of the way."

Not only do I love Everlane's product offering, but their sustainable practices are also amazing as well. They have very transparent pricing and conditions for their workers, and also source great materials.

I just placed my first Prose order today and could not be more excited! Prose makes customized hair care products that help your hair look its best while eliminating sulfates, parabens,  and phthalates. They also don't test on animals!

Now here are a few gift ideas if you're looking to be more sustainable this holiday season. You can shop for these items HERE

Fall in Boston

Hi everyone! SO sorry for the delay in this post, school has been the busiest its ever been. I'm so excited to be sharing my trip to Boston with the Vineyard Vines team with you.

A few weeks ago I traveled to Boston with the Vineyard Vines team for a fun event celebrating their collaboration with Ocean Spray and Bright Pink. I'm so excited to share a recap of the event with you in today's post.

We arrived on Tuesday and checked into the beautiful Whitney Hotel in Beacon Hill. It was my first time staying in Beacon Hill and made me fall even more in love with Boston. Kate (@lonstarsouthern) and I took the bikes from the hotel and took a ride to explore the area. Later that day we had a lovely dinner at Pagu!

Wednesday was a jampacked day! In the morning we took a road trip to the Ocean Spray cranberry bog and had so much fun. We were picking with a purpose in support of BeBrightPink! It was so great to learn more about the organization, and I encourage you to learn more on their website. Vineyard Vines teamed up with BeBrightPink to design an adorable collection you can shop HERE. Plus 20% of all net proceeds go to BeBrightPink! After learning the ropes in cranberry harvesting, we had a beautiful lunch next to the bog before heading back into the city. Later on, we went to the Red Sox game and had such a great night!

Thursday morning a few of us had later flights so we decided to explore Beacon Hill and grab brunch at one of my favorite spots- Tatte! I was so sad to leave everyone, we had such a wonderful trip!

Here's a bunch of photos from the trip:

Autumn Classics

Hi everyone! My mom and I took a day-trip to Rochester, NY yesterday and had such a fun day. The foliage was beyond beautiful and it was so nice to spend the day with my mom. I picked up this gorgeous Joules black watch plaid coat from Molly & Kate at the Hamburg boutique crawl the other night and know I will be wearing it non-stop. I love how well it pairs with other prints too. I hope you have a lovely Sunday.

Enjoy!

The Sustainable Brand I've Been Loving

Hi everyone! Being a sustainable shopper is something I strive to be, but I still find myself falling into the trap of fast fashion. I recently began reading the book The Conscious Closet by Elizabeth Cline and love her outlook on having a more sustainable wardrobe. One reason I find it difficult to shop sustainably is that it normally comes at a large price tag that doesn't make sense on a college budget. My roommate placed an order at Everlane a few months ago and we've been in love ever since! They are very transparent about their manufacturing practices and the true cost of their products. Not only are they a great sustainable brand, but they also have the best basics (you need to try their jeans)! I'm so excited to have found a sustainable brand with realistic prices.

Here are a few of my current favorites from Everlane:
